How do I access dissertations online?

Answer

To find dissertations by Alliant students, you have a couple of options:

  • Option One: on the library home page, click Research and then select Alliant Theses/Dissertations to go to a special search page for those items.

  • Option Two: on the library home page, type keywords or author surnames into the main search box, and click Search. At the results screen, look on the left for the option to limit by Format, and click Theses. This filters out everything that is not an Alliant dissertation.

  • To find dissertations completed at other universities, start at the library home page and click Research | Databases | D | Dissertations and Theses. Log in if prompted, and you will then be able to search Proquest Dissertations and Theses.

Additional Tips

  • Alliant, CSPP and USIU dissertations published online since 1996 should be available full-text either through the link on the item's record in the catalog or through a search in the Dissertation & Theses database. New dissertations may not be available for 3-9 months from the submission date.
  • Dissertations in PsycInfo -- dissertation records are available in the PsycInfo database but you will not find full-text links to the item.  It is recommended that you open a second window and search the Dissertation & Theses database directly for the author to see if available full-text online.
  • See search guide on Dissertations and Theses for further information on searching for dissertations in the ProQuest database.
