What are the dissertation submission deadlines?

Answer

The library does not have deadlines for dissertation clearance. The library portion of the clearance process takes up to seven business days from the time all forms have been submitted and the dissertation uploaded to Proquest (the time needed to finish the student portion, including completion of any revisions the library finds necessary, is up to the student).

The Office of the Registrar has provided this information about dissertation submission deadlines:

“There is no specific university deadline to clear a student’s dissertation.

  • If you are asking in regards to participation in the commencement ceremony, clearance is not currently required to participate, per the catalog. Here is the link to the policy on commencement eligibility.

  • If you are asking how to avoid having to register for dissertation extension for the next term, you must clear your dissertation prior to the start date of that term.

  • If you are in dissertation extension and are asking how to avoid having to pay for the next term of extension, you must clear your dissertation by the add/drop deadline of that term. Please note, students must be enrolled in dissertation or extension during the term in which they achieve dissertation clearance.

Dissertation enrollment policies can be found in the university catalog here (scroll down to the dissertation header).

Add/drop deadline and term start/end date can be found in the academic calendar here (choose the corresponding year and session type).”

Also keep in mind the following registration requirement:

“Students must be registered in dissertation (or dissertation extension if they have already completed all regular dissertation sequence courses), during the term in which they achieve dissertation clearance. Dissertation clearance means not only successful defense, but completion of any required revisions and submission of the dissertation in its final form to the University library.”

If you have additional questions about the submission timeline, please consult your student advisor.
